Ida Kusuma Dewi : Being Lecturer Is Not My Dream
Ida Kusuma Dewi was born on May 25, 1971, in Magetan. She said that being a lecturer was not her dream, but now she is the lecturer of the English Department, Faculty of Cultural Sciences Sebelas Maret University. To be a lecturer was her mother’s wish for her and it was not what she wanted.
She loved teaching for children so much. She was a mentor of elementary school and she wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. Until her mother told her that she wanted Ida to become a lecturer. It was challenging for her because it was quite different between teaching for children and for adults.
Ida finished her bachelor study program in 1997. On May until August 1997, she worked as a teacher in English For Bussiness in Lembaga Pendidikan Bisnis, D2 Program. She also worked as an Academic Secretary in Magister of Hospital Management in Gadjah Mada University from September until December 1997. She was trying to love her job but she could not enjoy the job. She thought that her passion was in teaching activity and she felt so bored to work with the papers. In 1998 she was accepted as a lecturer in UNS. Ida continued her studies in Birmingham in 1999 and finished her studies in 2000.
“I prefer working with people than in papers. Teaching is challenging and I love it. I love to think about what I should do to teach and make the students understand what I am trying to say”
Her motto is being useful for other people. It brings her to do everything that can give benefits to other people. She wrote 15 books and one of them is an English book for elementary school that she wrote with her friends, Djtamika and Agus Dwi Priyanto. The royalty does not matter for her, but as long as people use her book and gives benefits, it is enough for her.
“If you want to get a job, do not mind the money you can earn. Do it with all of your heart and soul without wondering something you get from it. May Allah gives you more than what you expect”
